The principles

  • Respond to change – A lot of things in Agile change, tune in with the change. Understand its contents and identify its impact.
  • Self-organise – Agile is about the team. Each individual in the team needs to be able to respond and self-organise to do what is expected of them at the time within the team.
  • Focus on people – Open communication on any relationship improves the relationship and the goals thereof. For an agile tester to effectively enhance open communication they need to focus on understanding the people in the team as well as the Product owner and most importantly the end user.
  • Enjoy – One of the easiest ways we can tap into our creative space is to be excited about what we do. Testing requires a lot of creative thinking therefore enjoying what you do can improve your creative thinking.

How do testers add value?

The ultimate value of any software solution is when it does what it’s meant to do effectively and efficiently. The value realisation is however slightly more from a technical point of view than a customer point of view but should still align with what the solution should do. This is where we see Agile testers adding value because they wear both hats, technical and customer focused. The personality, application of the principles and the right mind-set of an Agile tester together enhances the realisation of the value.
