Automation maintenance
In as much as the product evolves and needs to keep up with a changing environment or needs, so should the automation tool. It needs to be able to improve and allow the user to add new tests as they are needed. Therefore, in order to get the benefit of the tool, a proper automation backlog needs to be maintained to allow for script development as new features are created.
Barriers to automation
In Agile testing everyone in the team can be and should be expected to test a solution. But can everyone do automation testing? Let’s look at issues hindering the process of implementing automation.
- Skills – In reality automation testers require a special skill. They need to be both testers and developers. This skill could be very rare to find.
- Automation tools – There are many tools available that offer automation. Some more expensive than the other and can require special knowledge as well as setting up and configuration. The person researching the automation tool should have a full understanding of the requirements or roadmap so to align his/her mind-set in that mode when shopping for a tool.
