Does adopting the DOI improve ROI?
The short answer is “yes”, if there is compliance. There are many similarities with precepts from Lean Manufacturing in all the statements. However, while the statements support efficient and appropriate delivery, they are not enough on their own, and some framework is require that will actually deliver the project. For a non-IT project, perhaps Kanban or Lean TPS are most appropriate.
Adhering to the DOI in no way invalidates project management disciplines like PMBOK, Prince2 or MITP if those are currently in use in an organisation, although there are clashes with some of the Agile concepts.
